I think I fell in love with music the day I began to sing. My mother and I was in the car singing to Tevin Campbell's 'Can We Talk' when she turned the radio down and asked me about the lyrics. She didn't know some of the words to the song and her five year old daughter did. I believe that was the day I really recognized music. From then on, I would listen to any song and listen to the lyrics so that I could sing along with them.
It wasn't until I was 10, that I decided to write lyrics of my own. I will admit now that the lyrics weren't very good but they were mine and it was a start. I bought a cheap tablet and began a collection. Each time I would write a song I would feel as if I was improving.
I think my writing skills began to get somewhat good when I turned 14, because I began to write about the things I saw or the things that other people experienced. At 14, I didn't really have a lot of experiences of my own so I had to improvise.
When I turned 15, I started to get into producing music. I bought a Magix product and I attempted to make my own song. I didn't know a lot about composing or producing but I used what I knew about other songs I've heard, and before I knew it, I had my first song. I can say now that it wasn't all that good, but it was like starting all over again just on a different level.
I started getting really confident about my lyricis skills at 16. I learned to write from the heart and learned how to put my emotions on paper. I still wasn't that good at producing songs and for a moment I got discouraged and stopped producing.
Early 2007, I started producing songs again and I felt really good about the results this time around. I listened to my favorite songs and took notes of what made them so special to me, then I applied it to my own work and it really helped me. I began to be more creative and I discovered what I liked and what I didn't like. I'm still in the process of developing my own style in music production and I wish that one day I'll be known as the best, so I'll keep working until then. =]
