大家好! How are you all? I'm all the same: studying and chatting online. But besides that I'm reading. In my AP English class, for instance I've finised reading a greek drama Medea by Euripides. Very interesting play, depicting Medea the lover of Jason, who is devastated by Jason's attempt to marry Corinth king's daughter. She poisons that princes and kills her sons from Jason as to punish him. Throughout the play the polemics about passion versus reason, woman's status in society, and the place of an individual in the society.
I read that play in one day, but on the next I watched a movie by Li Yu called Dam Street. Although the plots are different, the tragic characters share many similarities, and are contrasting at the same time. A very interesting movie, which I would advice you to watch.
In any case I am going to go do my physics homework. After all, I should save my grade in that class somehow.
Here is your vocab for today. These words are from 11th grade vocabulary list I use in my AP English:
- conductive-adj. tending to promote, encourage, or assist; helpful. Example: She found the atmosphere in the library conductive to study and creative thinking.
- adept-adj. highly skillful. Example: The watch repairman was very adept at turning the gears and replacing screws in old chronometers, some of which were made over a hundred years ago.
- aptitude-n. natural talent, ability, or talent. Example: Miss Richards yearned to sing in a rock and roll band, but she lacked aptitude for music.
- inept-adj.foolish, incompetent, bungling. Example: The inept doctor did the surgery on the wrong knee.
- prodigal-adj. recklessly or wastefully extravagant, spendthrift. Example: The prodigal son was welcomed back into his father's home even though his brother who had saved money was angry at the support of the spendthrift.
Have a good day guys!
