Today was an interesting day... My coworker mentioned that he'd gone to see a chiropractor because of back problems he was having and I have been dealing with this neck pain for like three weeks now and it hasn't really gotten any better. By the end of the day every day it's so bad it hurts to turn my head... anyways- I called them up and they were able to squeeze me in for an 8:15 AM appointment.
Turns out, my neck was so stiff I guess it gave the doctor cause for alarm, and they took Xrays. Apparently, my neck vertebrae are not aligned the way they should be. He showed me the curve of a normal spine, which has three distinctive curves from the bottom to the top. well, instead of curving outward at the top like it should, mine just goes straight out in a line. Basically... it should look like ) but instead it looks like /
>< He said it's from leaning forward at the computer and it's the sort of thing that has gradually been done over the course of the last 10 years of my life most likely... By the end of the day when I get tired my head tends to fall forward, and the weight of it is being supported in all the wrong places. The discs inbetween the vertibrae in my neck are getting pinched from the weight to the point now that they can't take it any more and cause some acute pain... Normally the weight should be distributed back further on the bones and NOT the cartilage inbetween the vertibrae.
So he cracked me in places I've never heard crack before, and it feels much better- but that's the start of it. I feel kind of sore now but that's apparently also normal. I have to go in again on Monday to get more treatment and maybe figure out a better way to sit or train myself to sit so that I can get mobility in my neck again.
I try to sit ramrod straight in my chair too and not slouch too much, but I guess even then I don't realize that I let my head fall forward. Ugh- first time I feel like I'm getting old ;;
