As I might have mentioned, I... (Jan 25, 2007 7:21 am)
As I might have mentioned, I painted the walls to the roof of my new apartment a few days ago, I have a bit more to do, but I decided to wait and see what we have to move out. The painting is in a narrow hallway, and will likely get scuffed up when they move out the old washing machine, etc., so I will just have to paint over the scuffs.
I also did a lot of work in the bathroom today. The outlet was not installed. Doug had duc-taped over the bare wires in the hole so they wouldn't get wet. I put my high school electricity class knowledge to good use, and pulled all of that out and installed a covered bathroom outlet ($4). I also fixed the leaky toilet (and broke the toilet insides in the process, so I had to buy new ones ($7 + $5 for tools). The toilet innards are made of some cheap cheap plastic!
The bathroom mirror was also far too low. It gave me a good view of my chest, but unfortunately, not my face. So I had to buy a cheap drill and drill some holes/taps in the tile and move that up about 10 inches.
I also have free internet from the school, but had to hunt around and figure out the IP address numbers to make a connection with the school's network.

Lastly, I installed a new phone. The phone number will eventually be changed to my office number, so if someone calls my office, it will ring at my home. I bought a cheap Chinese phone for about $14, which looks like an old-fashioned phone, but with buttons. I installed it on the side of an old crappy cabinet in the living room.
I'm already loving my new place, although I still haven't moved much in yet! I have a few weeks to complete the move.
It was a busy day, but I got a lot done!
