3rd day! (Jul 06, 2008 9:17 am)

ok, well today we decided we would go to the murakami exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. while we were on our way there, on the subway, we were talking about what we would do afterwards, and this random cute guy starts giving us suggestions about where to go. he was actually pretty helpful. so anyway, he gave us references to good places to eat in chinatown, and where good pizza was in brooklyn. he also knew about all the japanese stuff i was looking for, which was nice.

the murakami exhibit was really cool, altho some of the sculptures were a little explicit, but whatever. there was this one gigantic painting with all these mushrooms and everything in it, and there were also studies included for the painting with color samples and little notes he made in japanese. there was also this whole room devoted to flowers, with flowers covering the walls like wallpaper, and this big flower sculpture in the middle. there was this big painting on the opposite wall of where you came in, and it showed all these flowers making different faces, but most of them smiles, against a backround of clouds and blue sky. some of them were crying, and others were mad. there were also some other flower paintings in the room. we found out that he did the album cover for kanye west's new album, graduation.

after the murakami exhibit, we walked down to grimaldi's pizza, only to find that there was a very long line. so, we went to this other pizza place, which was still pretty good. after this, we saw this boutique that was pretty cool, so we tried on a few things, and then went on to walk to pearl paint, where i bought some gelly roll stardust pens, and we looked at the paintbrushes there too, just to see if any of them were suitable for makeup. sadly, none of them were. then we went to this minimalist japanese store called muji, where almost everything was either white, brown or grey. next door was the complete opposite of muji, CB2, which was crate and barrel, only with more modern-looking furniture. next was madewell, a store which was pretty cool, tho i didn't really see anything that would look good on me,  but o well.

we went to lush, this store that made homemade cosmetics and soap. there's one in atlanta too, at lenox. there was this one bath bomb (i think it was a bath bomb) that was all orange and glittery, so that when you picked it up to smell it, you sucked glitter into your nose and it got all over your face and hands so you were all glittery and you couldn't get it out. after lush, we were getting kinda hungry so we took a cab to this crepe place where we got crepes to go. i got an entree crepe, and my aunt got a dessert crepe. we both got half of each of them. i got a crepe with tomatoes, mozzerella, and turkey, and she got a crepe with bananas, chocolate, and walnuts. they were really good. and our day was done.
