skin whitening??

i want to try to whiten my skin. i know that sound kind of stupid but living in az, almost my entire life has made me very tan. usually in the winter i get a smig lighter but i want more. haha. does this sound bad? i wonder if there are things i can do. except for lathering on chemicals. that wouldn't be good. has anyone ever tried anything? i know in the phillipines there are pills you can take.. maybe i should goggle...
